Background

The Cahaba-UAB Family Medicine Residency opened a 4-4-4 track on the UAB Campus in the UAB Department of Family and Community Medicine.

The Highlands program is a 4-4-4 track on the UAB campus, focused on resident education and scholarship in key areas including:

  • Digital health

  • Genomics

  • Health promotion (exercise, nutrition and mental health care)

  • Interprofessional care

  • Cultural awareness and social determinants of health

  • Population health


Cahaba Family Medicine is a part of Cahaba Medical Care , a Community Health Center (FQHC), with 22 locations in central Alabama serving Bibb, Perry, Chilton, Wilcox and Jefferson Counties. It is a HRSA “Gold Award” Top 10% Quality, and 6 time winner of HRSA’s Access Enhancer Award and Health Equity Enhanced Award.

The UAB Department of Family and Community Medicine is a part of the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Marnix E. Heersink School of Medicine, an internationally renowned research university and academic medical center known for its innovative and interdisciplinary approach to education.
